CoaXPress 2.0 – facing the new imaging realms …

Introduction

CoaXPress Interface (CXP), since its introduction in 2008, has become a great solution for demanding machine vision applications with cost efficiency in mind, especially relevant for high-speed image data transmission in the industry. Throughout the years the concept was constantly refined and developed until the moment it became the official industry standard. With recent improvements introduced to version 2.0 of CoaXPress specification, resulting in numerous advantages such as high data bandwidth, easy integration and many more – customers can equally fully benefit from both high frame rate sensors and very high-resolution sensors over long distances.

CCXP-12 speed and reliability

CXP-12 is a modern solution for new problems.

Current CoaxPress 2.0 protocol introduces major innovations to the standard:

  • bandwidth up to 12.5 Gbps (~1.5GB/s) per channel enables you to meet the requirements of the most demanding applications
  • long distance – with up to 40 meters or even 100 m with reduced bandwidth
  • low-cost cables – industry grade, flexible with robust Micro-BNC (HD-BNC) connector.
  • plug-and-play – Power over CoaXPress (PoCXP) technology enables power supply and data transmission with only one cable. GeniCam standard is supported improving the communication between PC and camera
  • exact synchronization – multi-camera applications exact precise control over the image acquisition

Other advantages of CXP-12

  • security – CXP uses CRC32 checksum for the image data to ensure data integrity
  • real-time capability – record and process image data with minimal delay
  • GenTL (Transport Layer) compatible – GenTL is a low-level API to provide a standard interface to a device regardless of the transport layer (with or without a frame grabber). It allows enumerating devices, accessing device registers, streaming data and delivering asynchronous events. GenTL also has its own SFNC and a Framework for the implementation of GenTL Producers which is available to associated members of the GenICam standard group. (source www.emva.org)
  • Scalability – easy upgrade path in case of camera upgrade or need to implement more channels. With a minimal number of cables and multiple cameras set up available your current system is futureproof.

Modern industry requirements grow each year and Machine Vision systems need to adjust according to this fact. Basler CoaxPress 2.0 solutions can manage even the hardest tasks like Surface Inspection, 3D AOI Inspection, surgical Microscopes, Microscopy, Bottle Inspection, Motion Analysis, and many more.

The Basler CoaXPress 2.0 series features all the innovations with easy integration and reduced cost. Configure your solution with a high-performance image processing system at an excellent price-performance ratio.

  • with a focal length from 8 mm to 50 mm
  • Picture format from 1 – 1.1 inch
  • Adapters and other accessories are available allowing for flexible selection of components.
  • Software

Easy implementation of the CXP-12 components (camera and interface card) with the pylon Camera Software Suite as a common SDK, saving additional software components.

You can consider using Basler 2.0 CoaXPress Basler 2.0 CoaXPress Solutions in case:

  • you need a solution based on sensors featuring both high-resolution and high-speed,
  • you need an easy setup with fewer robust cables,
  • your current interface does not support required distances maintaining the same speed,
  • the implemented solution involves multiple cameras with low-latency precise control
  • the load on the CPU needs to be reduced – data transfer directly to the GPU lowering strain on other parts and minimizing latency,
  • camera Link is insufficient.

Summary

The introduction of the CoaXPress interface made a real change in the machine vision industry with the Basler CoaXPress 2.0 taking industrial image acquisition to the next level – doubling data rates, bridging long-distances and allowing customers to have a reliable and affordable system with easy integration even for the most demanding applications now and in the future.
