First Design-In Samples Now Available New ace Models with Sony’s IMX 250, 252, 264 and 265 Sensors

Design-in samples are now available for five new ace USB models featuring Sony’s IMX 250, 252, 264 and 265 sensors. The five new cameras offer resolutions from 3.2 to 5 megapixels and frame rates of up to 120 fps.

Thanks in part to pixels measuring just 3.45 µm, the sensors deliver strong sensitivity, low noise levels and very good overall image quality at high resolution and fast frame rates. They are also capable of sensing light in the near-infrared range. Many applications, from electroluminescence inspections to traffic and security applications, require only low levels of sensitivity in this spectrum and work effectively even without a dedicated NIR sensor.

In addition to the speedy sensors IMX250 and IMX252 Sony has positioned a counterpart for each sensor with a lower frame rate, just as they did with the IMX174. These sensors — the IMX264 and IMX265 — represent economical alternatives capable of producing the same image quality, but with lower frame rates. They are the perfect choice for applications that do not require extreme high-speed image acquisition. For this reason, Basler provides the faster sensors IMX250 and IMX252 in combination with the USB 3.0 interface. Unlike GigE, USB 3.0 offers the bandwidth needed to properly service the higher frame rates of the IMX250 and IMX252. The decision not to offer GigE variants of the IMX250 and IMX252 was a conscious one, as the more economical IMX264 and IMX265 sensors already perform better than their more expensive GigE counterparts could do.

Beyond this, the sensors are also notable for their small dimensions, allowing them to work in combination with economical 2/3″ lenses.

Taken as a whole, these properties make the new IMX sensors ideal partners for Basler’s most successful series of cameras, the ace line. In all, twelve ace models are planned with the new IMX 250, 252, 264 and 265 sensors from the Pregius series by Sony.
