New Basler Blaze 3D camera officially unveiled

The new version of the popular 3D camera from Basler has been officially announced. Like the previous version, Basler Blaze is a camera that uses the Time-of-Flight principle, which, thanks to Sony’s latest DepthSense ™ technology, gives even more accurate results in 3D measurements. 

Thanks to the VCSEL laser diode operating in 940nm light, the Blaze camera is adapted to work in daylight conditions. The camera provides an image in the form of a 3D point cloud and 2D intensity maps in real time, reducing the need for CPU power. Image acquisition takes place at a maximum speed of 30 fps, in VGA resolution.

The integrated Sony DepthSense ™ IMX556PLR-C sensor with CAPD (Current Assisted Photonic Demodulator) pixels and the Back-Illuminated CMOS sensor allow much more accurate reflection light scanning. Thanks to this, the Basler Blaze camera, regardless of the light, allows you to carry out 3D measurements with an accuracy of single millimetres, in the range of up to 10 meters.

Thanks to the integrated lens and invisible infrared lighting, the new camera is a very compact solution. Blaze has an IP67 resistance class, and additionally, the low weight and lack of moving parts make it ideal for mounting on a robot arm. The Gigabit Ethernet interface facilitates integration and enables trouble-free use in multi-camera systems without interfering with each other.

Time-of-Flight technology is a measurement of the time it takes for a light beam to travel the distance between the camera and the subject and back. The longer this time, the greater the distance. Thanks to the modulation of the light beam, the sensor is able to precisely select the searched wave and determine the time it took to cover the measured distance.

Typical applications of ToF cameras include industrial automation, logistics, medicine and other applications in the field of “Smart Factory”. Thanks to its compact design, it is more durable and less susceptible to errors in applications such as dimensioning of loads, palletizing or in autonomous vehicles.

The first test copies are scheduled for September 2019, serial production will start at the end of 2019.
